Air Rifle Instructor Course

For adults to train for the YPS Tutor (Air Rifle) qualification so that they can run sessions on the range at Cox Wood.

The recommended minimum age is 21. Absolute minimum age is 18 (but they cannot supervise under-14 year olds until 21st birthday).

The course is non-residential (though this is a Scout campsite and camping would be possible)! Bring a packed lunch each day. Tea & coffee will be available.

Qualify to deliver air rifle shooting to young people. This course meets Scouts requirements. 

  • At the end of the course you should be able to:·  
  • Take over an existing air rifle range and run it safely,·  
  • Set up a safe temporary airgun range in a suitable location such as a Scout HQ or open space.·  
  • Help a young person learn to shoot an air rifle competently,·  
  • Run an approved introductory course for young people in target shooting with sporter air rifles. 

Topics Covered: organisation of the sport, safety, law, building & running ranges, taster sessions, air rifle types & care, shooting position & technique, training games, the youth proficiency scheme.

£40 Cox Wood Campsite are willing to refund the course fee to any individual who runs five sessions in the shooting range at Coxwood in the following two years for other groups. (ie not the group you are linked to currently).This will help you to maintain a good log of regular use at the range and help provide this activity to groups without suitably trained adults.
