Our District Chair, Alison Dwight, is standing down from the role due to her starting a new job in Malaysia. Zoom may be able to mean we can have meetings wherever we are, but time zones pose a different challenge!
We wish Ali all the best in her new adventure and thank her for the amazing job she has done. We’ll miss her loads!
This means we will be looking for someone to take over as District Chair, the person who leads the District Executive Committee, our board of trustees.
Who better to sum up the role than Alison herself:
“The role of the chair is for someone who loves a challenge and shares the same enthusiasm as the Scout Association to play a part in the growth of the movement and enable as many young people as possible in Wrexham to have access to a local group in which to partake in exciting and engaging activities.
“To be a chair you need to have commitment, strong communication and inter-personal skills to deal with a diverse range of individuals on the committee and within scouting. You need to be able to motivate others and encourage participation in discussions and taking on actions.
“You need to have patience, understanding, listen to other people’s point of view and be able to resolve problems without offending anyone. You have to have very good organisational skills and be pro-active, chase up actions within a reasonable timescale and let people know you are there to support them if they need help.”
The District Executive meets four times a year plus the Annual General Meeting with other District meetings on top of that as required.
If you would like to nominate yourself or anyone you know for the role, please get in touch via email. Nominations close at the end of May.
