We’re incredibly sad to announce that David Burton has Gone Home.

“Skip” passed away yesterday aged 73 after a very hard fight against sudden illness which struck him unexpectedly earlier this year.

David had been involved with 1st Overton-on-Dee Scout Group since the early 1980s and had held many roles with the Group, including as it’s Group Scout Leader for over 20 years. More recently he had been the Group Treasurer and a very active member of the Cox Wood Crew.

Skip had always been great with teenagers and was Venture Scout Leader for many years before moving over to become a Leader with Bryn-y-Pys Explorer Scout Unit.

He was passionate about the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme and international Scouting, always encouraging young people to attend World Scout Jamborees. He’d himself visited the 9th World Jamboree which took place in Sutton Coldfield on the 50th anniversary of the Scout Movement in 1957.

Outside Scouting David was a pillar of the community, particularly in Overton where he was involved with the village twinning committee, and the Royal British Legion. He was also a big family man and his both his sons, James and Chris, were actively involved in Scouting.

Our thoughts are with Jill, James & Chris and the rest of the family – and all those in 1st Overton-on-Dee and in the Cox Wood Crew.
